Ten on Tuesday - Kid Edition

Happy Ten on Tuesday!  Today we're thinking about things that we miss from our childhood. It could be hard to keep it to ten!  I lived in a neighborhood with a million kids.  We were always outside and we were always playing.  We ran, we rode, we built, we hid, we found, we blew things up! Our mothers had no idea what we were doing! Or so it seemed.  It was a wonderful time...let's see what I miss the most...
1.  Playing outside all day long.  Whether it was standing around on our bikes, sitting on a fence, or running through the field, it was fun.
2.   The games...red rover, red light, giant step, duck duck goose, hide 'n seek, flashlight tag.
3.  Walking to the country store for penny candy.  This was a big deal as it was several streets away.  When you were free to do that - you had it made.
4.  Getting up really early with my Dad and being driven to my Nana's house on his way to work.  Spending time there was truly, a real highlight of my youth.
5.  Knowing, without a doubt, that I was going to grow up and marry Davy Jones and be a teacher. :-)
6.  Going camping.  We were lucky enough to go to a lot of different places and meet a lot of other kids.  It was a great opportunity to get out of the neighborhood and see the "world".
7.  Weekend television - Bozo, Boomtown and Sunday night Disney.
8.  Pilgrim Day Camp.  Though I absolutley hated swimming lessons because the water was so cold, making gimp bracelets, the one night you got to sleep over, the friends, that made it the best.
9.  That slide up there.
10. Lack of responsibility.  Now that was fun.

Be sure to check out Carole's blog and see what everyone else has to say today!

The lack of responsibility. That was the number one wonderful thing. Meals on the table, roof over head, and all the time in the world to run free!

You didn't marry Davy Jones because I was supposed to marry him!!!

I loved playing outside all day. Neighborhoods were so great back then with so many kids.

Oh, these lists today! I'm all nostalgic for childhood! I wasn't big on playing outside but I loved to have friends over and play inside. We played "house" all day long.

That's a wonderful photo!! What a fun list, thank you...I remember thinking I'd like to marry Davy Jones. I was crushed when he died recently.

My SIL was the same way about Davy Jones. He was on a cruise she was on but she didn't get to see him until they were going through customs, so she convinced my brother to take her to see Davy perform at EPCOT a couple months later, and Davy died about a month before that scheduled concert. It's shocking to realize your teen idols are getting old.

Well, even "that slide up there" scared me half to death, I do miss most of the rest of what you listed! And I also miss "Turkish Taffee" and "Wax Lips" and coming back home on a cold afternoon to the smell of my Mom's cooking.

Oooo, what a great list! Thanks for reminding me of all the crazy games we used to play whenever the cousins came to visit my grandparents who lived across the road. I had forgotten about a lot of those!
